Solo to Brimfield - 08-05-06
Click on the photos for much more detail.
| Its a 45+ minute drive to the
airport from our house but only about a 10 minute flight. Whew!
So far, in this photo, we have flown from Worcester, along the MA Pike till
we get to a golf course, which is visible in the lower right of the frame.
From here, we'll hang a left and the house is just a short ways inland.
We're flying at around 3,200 feet here, and during the course of circling
our home will descent to around 1,300 feet. |
 |
| Below, here's a closer view
of the golf course as we turn left to cross over the Pike. Our home is
located in one of the clearings just beyond he golf course, at around the
1:00 position in the upper-middle part of the photo. |
 |
| Below, we're past the golf
course, flying past a horse farm on our left, on our way to our
"neighborhood", located below-center in the photo. |
 |
| Here, we've flown past the
"neighborhood" and are looking back towards the golf course in the 2:00
position in the photos, and we can see the MA Pike also.
Interestingly, the mountain in the mid-frame is Mt Monadnock, New Hampshire
- our old friend in terms of navigational landmark aids. That gives us
a good reference point as to where Worcester Airport is located. You
can see, in the middle
of the frame is a horse farm and polo field of our neighbors the Smiths. Our "neighborhood" is a
row of 5 houses just in front of the forward edge of the wing. |
 |
| Same shot, a little closer to
the "neighborhood"...we're 'gonna fly around in back of the houses and
circle around again. |
 |
| Getting closer as we circle
back to our neighborhood, the row
of houses is clearly visible in the middle of the photo, the horse farm,
horse corral and
polo field is visible, and we can still see the golf course and the MA Pike. |
 |
| Now we're getting a little
closer view of the row of houses. Next door to our home is our old
friends' Carlos' and Graciela's antique farmhouse
with a swimming pool and a red barn. We're the property just directly
to the left before
it... largely obscured by trees, although you can see the end of our gravel driveway
heading out to the road. |
 |
| Here, we've flow around the
"neighborhood" again... got a clear view of the horse farms and
corral and polo
field in the lower left and right of the photo. Mid photo you
can see Carlos' and Graciela's swimming pool - again, our house is just beyond it...
largely surrounded by trees. |
 |
| Ahhhhh, in this shot.. you can
make out the roof of our home only.. and part of the driveway... and the other 4
homes nearby. |
 |
| Another view of our
"neighborhood" ... darn house of ours is almost completely hidden.
We've worked hard to cultivate that privacy - we planted every tree there
ourselves... where these homes are located used to be a grazing pasture for
the dairy farm that existed next door back in the 1800s - (Carlos' and
Graciela's home now), |
 |
| If you click the image below and
look closely, you can actually <see> a small part of our home. We live
in what used to be a grazing pasture (for what used to be a) milk farm next
door. Cindy and I planted all the trees you see one by one. As you can
guess, they provide a lot of coolness from the summer sun, and an amazing
amount of privacy. There's 3.5 acres down there that we own, but you'd never
guess it from the air. And you can clearly see Carlos and Graciela's farmhouse and
pool. Wow, what a cool way to spy on the neighbors! |
 |
| OK, heading back to
Worcester. We've been flying here less than a few minutes and
Worcester Airport is quite clear at the upper part of the photo, 1:00
position. That's where we're 'gonna head! |
 |
Lined up on Rwy 33... VASI
says "high" but that's ok, couldn't have taken the photo if we were on the
glideslope.
We've been cleared to land, flaps are deployed, engine at idle, fuel pump
on... just got to line up with the runway and stay on glideslope and we're
good to go. |
 |
Still descending towards Rwy
33. Control tower is visible right next to the water tower just left
of center in the photo.
Time to put the camera away and focus on the tasks at hand.... like getting
a little better lined up with the runway and at the proper glideslope
height! |

A successful landing, although no more photos.
A perfect day, and another flight under my belt! |
