The Captain
Thomas Bliss House
120 Tower Hill Road, Brimfield
My wife and
I had the recent pleasure to tour this home with Mr. Robert Paquet of
HARDWICK/PETERSHAM PROPERTIES, who is representing the sellers. You
can find more contact info for Bob on the home page of this site.
First - a note of truth-in-advertising: Hardwick/Petersham is a new
advertiser, but truth-be-told, I felt we had to see this house quickly,
before it sold, because it is truly a period masterpiece. We were
literally stunned by, and immediately fell in love with this home
and property. You simply cannot find authentic revolutionary period
homes in this perfect a condition. I think we both walked out trying
to figure out how we could arrange to purchase this property ...
Alas for us, our antique-home days are over as we are building an addition
onto our current home as we speak.
But if you happen to be in the market for a perfect condition,
revolutionary-era property, you must see this home.
Anyway,
after visiting this house, and the surrounding property, I felt compelled
to share the experience with you. First a little bit of
background... before my wife and I moved to Brimfield, we lived is a
neighboring town in an authentic - and by that I mean "primitive" 1700's
farmhouse. Oh, the labor of love that went into that home over so
many years... you cannot imagine the work it took to bring it up to
a live-able restored standard.
By contrast, The Captain Thomas Bliss House is, in a word - "perfect".
The current owners (who will continue to be your neighbors) have upgraded
and maintained the home to the highest standards of comfort, beauty and
authenticity, and the trees that line the property are among the very
oldest in Brimfield.
The Thomas Bliss House is in move-in condition... a show home to be proud
of that has every modern convenience (and more, but I'm leaving out
some of the best parts for your own viewing of the property), and it is
completely authentic to its 1700's roots in every way. There is also an
authentic New England barn and a beautiful outbuilding included on the 6
acres (with more acreage available).
As if that
were not enough, the home's lavish landscaping will be recognized by
readers of certain home and garden magazines, as it has been prominently
featured therein. The grounds are gorgeously in bloom throughout the
spring, summer and fall seasons with a myriad of annuals, and is complete
with running streams, ponds and fountains. The main seasonal pond adds to
the beauty and wildlife that abounds there, and in fact, because of the
natural ambiance and beauty found there, the home has been host to more than a few
weddings and receptions.
This is the
first editorial comment we have ever made about one of our advertisers in
the 11 year existence of Brimfieldshow.com, but if you are a fanatic about
gorgeous, authentic period homes as we are, you will understand once you
view this home.
